First 3 25nl videos almost complete

Well I've almost got the first few videos for my 25nl series on Best Free Poker Coaching finished and hope to have them up soon. I think I'd call it more of an intermediate level series. From my own experience this is about where most winning 25nl and even 50nl regs are at. They typically have a really good understanding of fundamentals which puts them ahead of the average losing/breakeven player but sometimes have a bit of a disconnect between applying some concepts correctly and meshing their overall strategy.


So I'm going to try to demonstrate how a lot of those standard concepts work together to help the 25nl reg get to that next level in their game with this series.

The first video is going to be about the 3 types of advantages we have in poker and how to use them to make decisions about whether to play a hand or not along with player categorization and tendencies and what kind of adjustments we can make according to that information.

The second video will build on that and look more at hand selection and ranges versus different types of players. Based on this we can look at playing different types of hands against different types of players and having a plan for those hands that meshes our preflop actions together with our postflop plan.

The third video is still a little up in the air as to what I want to look at. Right now I'm thinking of going more in depth with our postflop plan in terms of equity and aggression. I imagine this will look at finding more spots to maximize value and steal pots using our equity. Probably more focus on hands like suited connectors and suited broadways that give us those equity shares where we can remain aggressive rather than the more binary hit or miss hands.

25nl Full Ring Video Series Ideas

I'm going to be doing a 25nl Full Ring series on Best Free Poker Coaching over the next few weeks and need some ideas. If there's anything you'd like to see, leave a comment and I'll try to incorporate it into one of the videos. I'll be starting off with some pretty basic stuff and hopefully move into slightly more advanced topics towards the end.

Some concepts I'm thinking about covering:

The 3 Advantages
Player Tendencies and Hand Selection
Isolation, Cbetting and Texture
Bet Sizing
Basic hand reading
Equity and Aggression

Each subsequent video will build on the concepts of the last and my goal is to provide an overall framework for how to turn the 25nl Full Ring game into your personal ATM =)

I'll keep this post updated as I think of more topics I want to cover.

Online Poker Documentary

I watched Krantz and 918 Films' colaboration documenting the professional online poker life of Greg Lavery, aka Captain Zeebo. I won't say a whole lot about it since you'll want to watch it for yourself, except to say that it is very professionally put together in HD.

The character study they did on Greg is an absolutely amazing story and I could relate to a lot of it myself as I'm sure most of you out there can. I also think that this paints such an accurate picture of the life of the online (semi)-professional player that it would give a lot of insight into our world for friends and family who are non-poker players. It explains a lot of things that I know that a lot of us have trouble explaining to people that are not familiar with what we do.

25NL Video: Takin Redline Maney

Hey, I finally got this video finished. I have a massive toothache and found it a little difficult to concentrate while doing the commentary so if there's anything I missed that looks non-standard or if I'm spewing nonsense just go ahead and point it out.

I run pretty decent for the first 1/2 or so and then spew some of it back so that's fun. This is actually quite a bit more LAGgy than even I usually play as it's only 6 tables and I get a little spewy with less than 12.

I paused the video at some points to go into more detail on my thought process. I did take some notes while playing so that the commentary stays as close as possible to my original live thought process.

Oh and my SN is obviously censored because I'm paranoid that you guys will pwn me if you know who I am . Here's a quick overview of my HUD so I don't have to jumble it up in the commentary. Preflop stats on top, postflop stats on bottom. VPIP/PFR are the only 2 that change color according to ranges - green = fish, orange/yellow = TAGish, red/purple = TAGish/nit:

25NL video on the way!

I made a 6 table 25NL video today and just need to dub my comments on to it. I should have it up by the end of the weekend. It was really fun and I pretty much win red line money and breakeven/lose blue line money. My stats are really wacked out due to so few tables and I got a little spewy in some hands. But I think there are some really good spots to think about using aggression.

Some weekend 100NL

I played 100NL for ~1000 hands today. Was doing actually quite well until the following hand:

This guy is a reg apparently. He's sitting at 4 of my tables and is quite TAGish and a bit more aggressive than the normal TAG that I've encountered but this is a small sample size. He seems to be quite competant. I'm obviously never shoving here without the Ks.

I think I played this hand ok. His overbet looked a little bluffy I guess. Any comments would be appreciated.

I also found a nice 75/35/4 fish to beat up on. He was 2 seats to my left and kept betting every time I showed weakness. I think he was getting really tired of me running 30/20 due to catching cards and always having it. Here's a couple of hands with him:

Hand #1 I think this really pissed him off that he couldn't get me to fold middle pair. He basically has lol2cards and thinks he can push anyone around. I'm making smaller bets here sort of as a blocker/bluff inducer with the plan that I'm not folding unless a Q, K, or A hits. Keeps the pot a bit smaller, but might induce a bluff as well since he has to figure I don't have much, and he's right. So I'm playing as if I know that he knows what I have =P

Hand #2 I'm never folding QQ against this guy. He would have easily folded everything but JJ+ and AK had I 4bet him PF here. Since he's only got 70 BB, it's going to be easy getting it in anyways with a $20 pot on the flop. Since he's so aggro I'm sure he's going to be cbetting anything at which point he's pot committed so there's no point in donking into him here and I think CRAI is the best line.

So I finished the session at 3 ptBB/100 which isn't at all bad.

I think some 100NL mixed in until I can finally move up permanently is going to help with my goal of squeezing into Supernova by the end of the year. If I stick with my 18 tabling 25NL, I'm going to be about 16k VPPs short at the end of December. I think putting in weekends at 100NL for now at least will close that gap and I will probably have a good week in December to really put the hours in over Christmas holidays.

I have decided to make a 10NL video this week. I used to play a nitty 10/6 game here when I was "crushing" it for 5 ptBB/100 so it'll be interesting to see how the games play now. I haven't played there on a long term basis since January or February iirc. I'll probably end up running something like 18/14 trying to hold myself back and could very well end up with a negative winrate when I go overboard with the iso raising, lol, since 1/2+ the people at the table are worth isolating. I would like to 4 or 6 table these. My 6 table layout is similar to Split Suit's layout in his videos.

I'm not an expert or anything by any means. But I know people love watching videos regardless of who they are made by, I hope anyways! So take any advice I give or lines I take with a grain of salt. I hope to have it up by Friday and you'll be able to download it via megaupload.

5NL Video

I made a video playing 5NL deepstacked for 200BB. I found myself in a lot of standard situations but feel free to leave comments on any of the hands in the video. I thought it would be a good way for beginners out there to get an idea of some of the things that work at this level and maybe I could get some suggestions for improvement as well. After rewatching part of the video I found a couple of hands that I just butchered such as the AQ hand at 21:50 so those are some things that will help me improve (not sure what I was thinking there, lol). I'll be posting a 10NL video as well hopefully in the next couple of days.

I decided that I don't really want to give out my screenname right now since I am also posting my stats, so that's the reason for covering my screenname on the tables and in Poker Tracker.
